We are very excited for May this year! Not only did we get to host our annual celebration of all of the heroes in our community with Hero Faire, we are also very excited to celebrate the launch of a brand-new tabletop role playing game - Daggerheart!
The other big news this month is we are all getting prepared for an epic summer this year, and our Summer Camp for 2025 will be the best one yet.
This year, heroes can choose an Adventure Path for camp. Adventure Paths will really immerse you in the life of the path that you've chosen for the week.
Wizards spend the week creating the perfect spellbook, component (dice) pouch, and mixing potions. Fighters spend the week swordfighting, crafting armor, and strength training (swimming). We have 10 Adventure Paths to explore at camp this summer - more details below!
hero faire was awesome!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our annual Hero Faire celebration this year. School of Rock, well... rocked! The League of Swords brought tales of derring-do to life (loved hearing the ringing of blades during their show!), and we had a tie for the most evil laugh in the Evil Laugh Contest!
We hope you enjoyed the Swordplay, Archery, Crafts, Cardboard Cosplay and Bounce Castle this year! We are already looking forward to next year's Hero Faire.
Daggerheart launches may 20!
Our friends over at Darrington Press have been working hard on their new Tabletop Role Playing Game called Daggerheart for YEARS... and the day is finally coming this May!
Daggerheart is a game very much like Dungeons and Dragons, with some key differences. First, what is the same?
What is Daggerheart?
In Daggerheart, you will play a hero in a fantasy adventure. It is a Role Playing Game, so like DnD it will be an interactive story that you tell together with the other players and the Game Master at the table. Each week will be the next episode in your story, like a TV show.
You will be able to play an elf, halfling, fairy - even a human just like DnD. You can also play as a Giant (with 1-3 eyes!), an insectoid Fairy, a Fungril (mushroom person), or a Ribbit (frog dude or dudette). Familiar peoples from DnD are slightly reflavored in Daggerheart - Tieflings are known as Inferis, Tabaxi from DnD are Katari in Daggerheart, and the beloved Tortle is a Galapa here.
Your adventures in Daggerheart will seem the same - you will be presented with a scenario by the Game Master, and you along with the other heroes at the table will decide what your heroes will do in the scene. If there is any chance of failure, you will roll dice to see if you succeed, or fail.

Here is where Daggerheart starts to feel different. In Dungeons and Dragons we roll a d20 to decide if we succeed an action or not. In Daggerheart, we roll 2 x 12 sided dice. One of the d12's represents your Hope, the other is your Fear. So you can succeed with Fear, or even fail with Hope. This provides additional nuance to the outcomes that is really fun to play through.
Imagine that you are trying to open a locked door. The GM has you roll your Duality Dice (2 d12's), and you succeed with Fear (the Fear dice was higher than your Hope dice). You got the door open, but it was super noisy and may have attracted the attention of nearby adversaries.
Imagine you are in combat with a group of Ribbit bandits. You roll to see if you are able to hit a bandit with your axe - and you fail with Hope (your Hope dice is bigger than your Fear dice). You missed your attack, but it was so close that you awaken a renewed sense of mortality in the bandit - he peers into your eyes and is shaken to his core! You get a Hope - a resource that you can use to power your abilities in Daggerheart!
There are a few other mechanical differences to explore in Daggerheart. The game is much more interactive - the players share in the world building along with the Game Master in many important ways, starting right at the beginning with character creation. You can get a small taste for the game at our Daggerheart Launch Party on May 24th, and we will be offering Daggerheart for our Summer Side Quests this summer in addition to Dungeons and Dragons.

Summer Camp at The Hero Workshop is special. Your Hero will get to choose the activities that they want to do for camp, be it playing DnD all day, or spending the day doing arts and crafts, sword fighting, swimming, and playing new games with new friends.
This summer, we are offering Adventure Paths. Your Hero can choose an Adventure Path to join, and fully immerse themselves in the fantasy of their choosing. You want to be a Wizard? We'll set you up creating your own spellbook, crafting components, and mixing potions before you sit down at the table to play. Want to be a Fighter?
